Starting a Business: How To

Posted by Rick Tuttle under Getting Started

Particletree has an excellent article on how to get your business started called A Guide to Starting Your Business.

It’s from a couple of years ago but still very helpful. Covers topics such as accounting, business structure, legal and lots of links to detailed information.

I’ve found this site to be very useful, especially since I am a freelance web developer and they deal with topics related to Web 2.0 development.

Check it out.

Interesting article. I notice that there is no information on finding space (office, retail etc) and some question related to this. I have a commercial real estate company that finds commercial real estate brokers to represent tenants (its a similar model to residential) - we essentially match tenants with tenant brokers.

In finding space you have a couple of choices. Go it alone (and face the prospect of being represented by the landlords broker) or secure a tenant broker. Ideally you would go down the latter route as tenant brokers have the market knowledge and negotiating skills to get you the best deal.

If you only need a small amount of space (e.g. 400 sq ft of office over a couple of years) you are probably going to have a hard time finding a broker. Additionally, if you speak to a broker and don’t appear ready to pull the trigger (e.g. you don’t have a business plan) you may have a problem as well.

If you provide us your details we will work with you to qualify you and place you with a commercial real estate broker. Feel free to check us out - there’s no cost - http://www.propagent.com

Thanks for your comment Ashley. You’re right, many solo entrepreneurs will need to find some commercial space and will benefit from the advice of a competent professional.

I suppose I haven’t posted any articles about office space because I’m one of those Bedouin Entrepreneurs!
