Your Life Plan

Posted by Rick Tuttle under Planning and Strategy

I have personally benefited from reading and listening to the guys at StartupNation. I had often heard their short radio clips when I used to commute and then I picked up their book at the library.

One thing that I appreciated about their advice was the importance of developing a Life Plan before you develop your Business Plan. There are many reasons that solo entrepreneurs go into business and making money is not always the top priority (although being profitable better be on your list!).

Your Life Plan can be helpful in the same way that a well thought out Vision and Mission Statement are useful to a business. You need to define your values, priorities and goals for your life before you set them for your business. Otherwise you will get into a situation where your business becomes like that old horror movie “The Blob” and just takes over your life.

Do you want to be a solo entrepreneur because you want to be the next Bill Gates? Then might find yourself selling your soul! Or do you want to go solo in order to have more freedom in life? Do you want to be able to spend more time with family or serve more in your community? Maybe your goal is not to make more money than you did before you went solo but to have a simpler and more fulfilled life.

How are you going to make sure not only that your business is profitable but that it helps you meet your objectives in life. You need a Life Plan. Here is a link to StartupNation’s how to on creating a Life Plan:
